BODY CONTROL – WHERE AM I?
(Excerpts from "Open Your Eyes and Listen")
During prenatal development, there are primitive reflexes which have been designed for survival. These reflexes integrate into the maturing child, and in their place postural reflexes are developed which allow the child to learn how to sit up, stand, balance, etc. in other words, he finds his place in space (Where Am I?); if not, this is what is sometimes referred to as "persistent primitive reflexes".
If the body is disorganized, if postural reflexes are not fully developed or integrated, the brain gets conflicting signals. For example, some children require constant motion to orient themselves in space: other children turn their entire head or body instead of their eyes, because eye movement has not yet been differentiated.
Without knowing where your body is in space, sports can be difficult as well as simply shifting your eyes from desktop to board at school.
